Who wants yoga in the olympics?
3December2006

My apologies to everyone for last week’s lack of updates. But I hope this one will make up for it to some extent.
The British Telegraph reports on the call for yoga as an Olympic sport. This seems to be coming mostly from Brikram Yoga practitioners. It might be nice to have it featured as a demonstration “sport,” but I think real competing will do injustice to yoga. Competing takes our practice outward, instead of inward.
Yoga Abode talks about a movie with three hours of silence. It is a movie made by Philip Groning and highlights the life of Carthusian monks. Although yoga abode does not link to any sources, more reviews can be found here and here. Just to make sure, it is not a new movie, it was released last year. See a trailer here.

Capitalism and yoga
29October2006

Welcome to another weekly review. Ohmtastic points us this week towards an interesting article by Business Week about the influence of the Bhagavad Gita on today’s management.

Sex advice from yogis? Say what!??!?

Something that has been annoying me for a while are all the fake yoga sites on the web. When I’m browsing the web, I sometimes click on them to find a computer generated blog entry. I won’t link to them as I don’t want those sites to get anymore attention. But I feel they are offensive to all the yoga folks trying to write quality content for their blogs.

critical yoga review
14October2006

Even though this is a pretty old article, it sheds a very critical look on Brikram Yoga. By linking to this article, I’m not saying I’m anti-Bikram or whatever. I just think that copyrighting yoga poses makes no sense.
About Yoga uploaded an illustrated guide to yoga props. It comes in handy if you don’t know what a yoga mat looks like haha.
I knew there are yogis who are said to come off the ground while in trance. But aerial yoga is taking it one step further. Starting point is the air.
